Secession petitions now filed for all 50 states
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/sec … 00440.htmlPetitions signed by hundreds of thousands of Americans seeking permission for their states to peacefully secede from the union have now been filed for all 50 states on the White House website.
The secession petition push began last week on the site’s We The People section after a Slidell, La., man filed a petition on Nov. 7 to allow Louisiana to secede. Residents from other states followed suit.
As of Wednesday afternoon, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas—all states that voted for former Gov. Mitt Romney—as well as Florida each had accumulated more than 25,000 signatures, the threshold needed to trigger an official response from the Obama administration. The secession petitions now have more than 700,000 digital signatures in total.

Well, obviously this is all just a big joke.
However, I feel compelled to be the pedant here, and point out that the POTUS they are petitioning cannot legally do a thing relating to seccession. If a state seriously wants to leave the Union, as per Article 4 Section 3 of the Constitution, they’d have to convince Congress. Petitioning the executive branch about it is utterly pointless.

Conservative Leaders Reject Secession Talk In Wake Of Obama’s Election
http://news.yahoo.com/conservative-lead … itics.htmlIf hardcore conservatives are looking for generals in their post-election civil war, they may have to look beyond some of the biggest names on the right.
Following President Obama’s re-election last week, a group of virulently anti-Obama Republicans has apparently suggested pulling the plug on the whole United States of America thing and splintering off into nations for which Obama is not at the top of the government. Two of the most incendiary conservative leaders, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) and RedState founder Erick Erickson, called on the would-be secessionists to stand down on Tuesday, potentially pitting them against a grassroots backlash following last week’s election.

Why don’t we get a jump on the secessionists and round up all the tea partyiers, wing nuts, conservative columnists and right wing talk show hosts and move them to the Arizona desert and change Arizona’s name to Azholio. We could build border fences around it. We could add Puerto Rico as a state and we wouldn’t even have to change our flag. If any of these blockheads escape from Azholio we should force them to be a stoop laborer.
If we don’t want to give up Phoenix, Tempe, Tucson or the Grand Canyon we could in the alternative substitute Far Northern Alaska for Arizona. If we did this they could see Russia from their porches. Let’s see, we’d name it Asslaska and appoint Sarah P. as their interim screwball in chief. Again we’d need a big border fence.
We could probably convince the UN to impose stout economic sanctions against Asslaska or Azholio too.

Dear Friends—
I would like to take this opportunity to update you on our 2012 congressional campaign.
First, we faced a tsunami at the presidential level in Oklahoma. Regrettably, President Obama received a mere 33.2% of the vote in the Sooner State. It was slightly below the 34.4% he received in 2008 in Oklahoma. That made it tough for all Democrats in the state who were on the ballot. We are pleased that the President received a rousing vote of confidence nationally and the U.S. Supreme Court will not veer off the right side of the road and may actually stabilize and move slightly to the middle and secure women’s rights and take a more compassionate and rational position on issues that are important to us. Despite some confusion in the mind of former Governor Romney, corporations are most definitely NOT people my friends!
On the positive side of the ledger, we beat the incumbent congressman in the early in-person vote, by a wide margin—9,577 to 6,117! That shows organization and enthusiasm, which we had in abundance, thanks to your help and a great effort by our campaign manager Pam Paul and our many dedicated volunteers. Pam, you definitely ROCK! So do our committed volunteers and donors!
We received the most votes of any of the five Democratic Candidates running for Congress in Oklahoma in 2012. We received 97,359 votes from intelligent, discerning and/or progressive Oklahomans! We did this in the face of the presidential tsunami in Oklahoma and after being outspent well over 10+ to 1! Our entire campaign was run on about $20 less than $150,000 to date!
We had the best showing of any Democratic Candidate in the Fifth Congressional District of Oklahoma since the early 1990’s.
We tip our hats to you! This was never about me or the Democratic Party! This was about you and always will be about you, and our state and country’s well-being!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
You are truly the salt of the earth!
Please feel free to call on me if I can be of assistance to you.
All the best always,
Tom Guild, 2012 Democratic Nominee in Oklahoma’s Fifth Congressional District

2NEWS investigates: Tax breaks for sale
http://www.kjrh.com/dpp/news/local_news … s-for-saleWhen you talk about state tax credits, you’re talking about a lot of money.
"It’s billions," said state auditor Gary Jones. "It’s literally billions of dollars."
"That’s the taxpayer’s money that we’re dealing with," said Rep. Earl Sears, R-Oklahoma.
Money that could be going to Oklahoma roads or schools.
"…assist Oklahoma in creating economic development and creating jobs," said Sears.
Instead, it’s going to tax breaks for businesses.
There are dozens of state tax credits. Some are awarded for expansion, job creation or investments, all with the idea that it has a positive financial impact on the state of Oklahoma.
But the 2NEWS investigators uncovered tens of millions of dollars of those state tax credits up for sale.
"There’s almost a market out there for selling tax credits," said Jones.
It’s happening, and in some cases it’s legal in Oklahoma. Nine of the dozens of state tax credits available can be sold.

Gun Sales Shoot Up After President Obama’s Re-Election
Gun stores across the metro are seeing a rise in gun sales.
“We sold everything. If I wouldn’t have been nailed down they would have sold me,” said Clay Hoover with Heartland Outdoors.
It’s not just guns and ammo on the rise. Heartland saw a record number of people sign up for a concealed carry permit.
“We sold out an entire class in a matter of an hour and a half,”
Hoover says it is no coincidence this happened a day after President Obama was re-elected.
“People fear they can’t have something the first thing they’re going to do is go buy something. People remember his comment from a few weeks ago wanting to reinstitute gun bans. ”
Gun enthusiasts are worried.
“I’m definitely concerned they’re going to take away my firearms,” said Trevor Hale.
Hale plans to stock up on ammo while he can.
“In case there’s a ban on how much we can buy, what we can buy or what we can’t buy.”
Hoover says sales will probably not slow down any time soon.
“Barrack Obama has a long history of being anti-gun.”
He says as long as he is in office…
“Sales will drive up.”
One gun brand reported $40 million in sales in just four hours Wednesday morning.

With possibly the least qualifications of anyone in Congress, it is fitting that Republicans have a Bible Kamp Kommandant at the tiller.James Lankford Makes Bid for Policy Committee Official
By Daniel Newhauser
Roll Call Staff
Nov. 8, 2012, 10:54 a.m.Tom Williams/CQ Roll Call
Freshman Rep. James Lankford officially announced his bid to head the Republican Policy Committee today, saying he hopes to bridge the gap between leadership and the rank and file on tough policy issues in the 113th Congress.
The speculation has long been that he would announce his intention to run after the election, when RPC Chairman Tom Price (R-Ga.) officially announced he will challenge Conference Vice Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.) for the conference chairmanship. With nobody else running for the fifth-ranking GOP leadership slot, Lankford looks to be a shoo-in when leadership elections are held next week.
In his first interview since the announcement was made, the Oklahoma Republican told Roll Call that he wants to work with leadership to reach consensus within the GOP Conference about legislation before it comes to the floor. He said he has been working behind the scenes since August spreading that message to the Conference.
“I don’t see this as ‘I’m the policy chair and I’m setting policy.’ … The Speaker determines the direction that we’re going,” he said. “I see this as ‘I’m the facilitator… I stay behind the scenes.’”
The task is particularly important because the GOP will have a slimmer majority in the House than it did last year. The slew of tax and spending issues, as well as the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind, will necessitate buy-in from everyone, he said.
As a result, he wants to allow Members who, for instance, are not on the Education and the Workforce Committee but who might have good ideas about education policy, to have their say through him.
“To work with different voices in the Republican Congress,” he said, and “to work with different Members to come up with compromise agreements within our own Conference.”
Lankford was a director of the largest Christian camp in American before deciding to run for Congress. He was initially on nobody’s radar but impressed leaders by becoming an effective communicator for GOP values and policy. Earlier this year, Roll Call included him on a list of up-and-coming freshmen who might one day aspire to be leaders or chairmen.
He said politics was never his strong suit, so when he was approached — although he won’t say by whom — to run for a position that would let him focus solely on policy, it was too good to pass up.
“It’s something my wife had already talked and prayed about,” Lankford said. “We had already determined that this is my passion, this is where I always go back to by default.”
Lankford is one of three freshmen running for leadership positions. Rep. Martha Roby (Ala.) is running to take over the Conference vice chairmanship from McMorris Rodgers and Rep. Jeff Denham (Calif.) is looking to become Conference secretary.
Lankford, though, said lack of experience is not a negative. He pointed to McMorris Rodgers and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), who have been in the House for only a few terms but who hold important leadership positions.Republicans are essentially in checkmate now. Their only move is to Mitterate to the middle just to get elected.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/david-sie … e-yet.htmlDavid Siegel was one of those bosses who told their employees to vote for Mitt Romney in the presidential election. Siegel, 77, is the owner of a private time-share company, Westgate Resorts, in Orlando and says he employs some 7,000 people. “I wanted to let my employees know what will come if they make the wrong choice. They need to worry if Obama gets reelected,” he told me in an Oct. 10 interview. He also said he might have to lay off some of them, maybe he might even retire. So now what?

76 of 77 counties OK Okla. affirmative action ban
http://www.kjrh.com/dpp/news/local_news … action-banVoters in all but one of Oklahoma’s 77 counties approved a constitutional amendment that wipes out affirmative action in state government hiring, education and contracting practices.
Complete but unofficial returns from Tuesday show that Adair County in eastern Oklahoma was the only county to oppose the measure. And the amendment narrowly failed in Adair County, where the measure lost by just 53 votes.
The remainder of the state overwhelmingly backed the ban, with the most enthusiastic support coming from Canadian, Kingfisher and Major counties.
The GOP-controlled Legislature voted in 2011 to send the proposal to a vote of the people. It did so over the objection of Democrats who maintained it was designed only to stoke racial tensions and drive conservative voters to the polls.

Schools fear loss of millions in property taxes
By KEN MILLER Associated Press
Published: 11/7/2012 4:07 PM
Last Modified: 11/7/2012 4:07 PMOKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma public school official said Wednesday that districts in the state face the loss of millions of dollars following the approval of two measures that would reduce property taxes.
One of the measures approved by voters Tuesday reduces the maximum increase on annual property valuations from 5 percent to 3 percent and the other exempts intangible property, such as copyrights, from property taxes.
"I don’t think it’s a fear, I think it’s a reality because schools are funded largely by property taxes. When the property taxes are reduced there are fewer dollars," said Oklahoma State School Boards Association Director Jeff Mills.
"They (schools) cut programs, they cut staff, they cut their expenses. That’s all they can do," Mills said.
He estimated the annual reduction in funding at around $55 million for public schools, including vocational-technical schools.
Supporters said limiting property-value increases will benefit the elderly and those on fixed incomes, while exempting intangible property will attract businesses to the state.
Norman Public Schools Superintendent Joe Siano said his district faces a $600,000 loss next year due to the exemption on intangible property. He said communities need to hold legislators accountable and get them to explain how they plan to make up for the revenue lost by schools.
Also approved was a measure to remove the governor from the parole process for nonviolent offenders, a plan that supporters say would make the probation and parole system more efficient.
Republican Gov. Mary Fallin initially supported the plan, State Question 762, but reversed her position after concerns from district attorneys who wanted the additional level of oversight.
"Gov. Fallin has always supported and continues to support removing the governor from the parole process for criminals with no history of violence," Fallin spokesman Alex Weintz said in a statement. "She opposed SQ 762, however, because it defined ‘non-violent offenders’ as those not currently serving an offense for a violent crime, without mandating that previous crimes or histories of violence be taken into account."
Another ballot item that was approved eliminates affirmative action programs in state government, a change that supporters said would have a minimal impact, mainly on some scholarships that target women or minorities.
The impact of that amendment is still being studied, according to Gary Shutt, a spokesman for Oklahoma State University, which administers scholarships such as the National Hispanic Scholars program.
"We are in the process of doing a comprehensive review to ensure that we are in compliance with the terms of the amendment," Shutt said.
Voters also passed measures changing the way the state Department of Human Services is governed and allowing the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to issue bonds.

4) His thick NY accent just will not go over well with voters outside of the Northeast. He shouldn’t bother.
5) Possible
6) Very possible. He might even have a prayer of winning Oklahoma. He’d have a lot of trouble winning a Dem primary though.
7) A black man in the White House? Perhaps. A blind black man in the White House? Common folks..
8) I heard some folks talking her up today. This is one I find intriguing. Personally, I think she actually may be too attractive though. I think men have trouble taking a woman that attractive seriously. (Yes, I think that little of my gender). The years will eventually fix that "problem", like they did with Hillary Clinton, but I don’t know if 4 will be enough in her case. I really like her politics, so its worth a shot.
9) I don’t like him personally, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a good candidate. It would be nice to lock down the Hispanic Vote another cycle. That may be enough to get them thinking of us as their party for good.
10) I love, love, love Corey. I’d worry about a POTUS though who’d have to be physically restrained from picking up an M16 and going on patrol himself every time he visits the troops.

The donors wrote notes on their checks like "Go get ‘em!" or "Stop Obama." They scrawled in names of candidates for office in Montana and Colorado, or simply "oil & gas."
But unlike donors to political committees, the names of those who gave to Western Tradition Partnership, or WTP, were never supposed to be made public.
That changed Friday after a Montana district court judge released the social welfare nonprofit’s bank records at the request of Frontline and ProPublica, saying citizens had a right to know.
It was the first time that a court has ordered a modern dark money group’s donors to be made public, firing a warning shot to similar organizations engaged in politics.
…
The biggest individual donor to WTP was Norman Asbjornson, a Montana native who gave $50,000 to WTP in August 2008. AAON Inc., Asbjornson’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning manufacturing company in Tulsa, Okla., gave $20,000 to ATP in October 2010. (The donation from Asbjornson was made public in a story by the Center for Public Integrity last week.)
Asbjornson couldn’t be reached for comment Sunday. He has said he believes taxes inhibit growth and has given more than $160,000 in federal races since 2008, including more than $65,000 to the Republican National Committee, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

For the current map that excludes all Rasmussen (Republican Sponsored) polling, look for the Rasmussen-free Maps link on the left side of the page. Today President Obama leads 303-220. The Rasmussen polls are heavily skewed Republican because of their very sloppy polling techniques.

Be careful what you wish for …
My wish is not for Romney to ever be elected or even for Gov. Fallin to leave. I wish for Mary’s liberation, including from her party’s script writer. It will be a test of her humanity.

SQ 766 is a corporatist’s dream come true – a tax avoidance scheme that would make Mitt Romney proud.
The proposal would provide huge tax cuts to major business interests – think utilities, telecommunications companies, airlines and railroads – by exempting intangible property, including stocks, bonds and investments, from their net worth.
It would cost local governments an estimated $50 million annually – 60% of which goes to schools and roads, among other vital services.
Recommendation: No.
BUT— BUT— BUT— IN HER PRO-766 TV AD= MARY FOULIN DIDNT SAY NOTHING BOUT NO STOCKS OR BONDS— OR INVESTMENTS??? OR HOW SQ 766 IS GONNA HURT THE SCHOOLS. SHE SAID WE’S THE ENVY OF THE WORLED!!
FACT CHECK= THE YOUNG PEOPLE ARE FLEEING OKLAHOMA IN DROVES.

Last Modified: 10/25/2012 5:54 AMWASHINGTON — Their lives on hold for years, young adults are now making big moves in the fledgling economic recovery, leaving college towns or parents’ homes and heading out of state at the highest rate since the height of the housing boom.
New census data released Thursday offer a detailed look at U.S. migration as mobility begins to revive after sliding to a record low last year.
The latest numbers show that young adults 25-29 are the primary out-of-state movers; they had the biggest gain in 13 years as they struck out on their own to test the job market in urban, high-tech meccas such as Washington, D.C.; Denver; Portland, Ore.; Seattle; and Austin, Texas.
